SHILLONG, March 10: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the state government to look into the aspects of rules that govern the transportation of animals from one part of the state to another.
Hearing a PIL filed by Gau Gyan Foundation, the HC said some suggestions have been handed over to the state on behalf of the petitioner.
“The State will indicate when the matter appears a fortnight hence, as to the feasibility of taking measures in terms of the suggestions,” the court said. It may be mentioned that the petitioner had earlier pointed out that though the rules are in place on how animals are to be transported into the state from outside, there may not be any rules on how animals would be transported from one part of the state to another.
“The State should also look into such aspects of the matter,” the HC said.
