SHILLONG, March 16: In an effort to augment the state’s power generation capacity, the state government may consider taking a fresh look at the proposed power projects which have been pending for years.
Revealing this, Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal said on Thursday that the department will have to go for an in-depth study since many power projects have been pending since 2010-2011. The department will reach out to the parties concerned with whom agreements were signed for the implementation of these projects.
“We might scrap and think anew if the parties concerned are no longer willing to pursue these projects,” Mondal said.
The agreements for some of these projects were signed with the private power companies back in 2007.
The hydropower projects allotted to private companies on Build Own Operate and Transfer basis include the Umduna project (57 MW) and Umjaut project (69 MW) to be developed by ETA Star Infrastructure Ltd, Mumbai; Kynshi Stage-I project (270 MW) by Athena Power Pvt Ltd, New Delhi; Rangmaw Project (65 MW) being executed by Sew Energy Ltd, Hyderabad; Kynshi Stage-II project (325 MW) entrusted to Jaypee Power Ltd, New Delhi; and Upper Khri Stage-I and Stage-II (15 and 10 MW, respectively) allotted to SM Energenco Ltd (Guwahati). The agreements for these projects were signed between 2007 and 2014.

(Contd from P-1) projects allotted to private parties on a Build-Own-Operate basis include Nongummer Small Hydroelectric project (18 MW) to be developed by VARKS-AVCO JV, Hyderabad; Umlun Micro Hydel project (25 MW) by Anderson Tea Estate Shillong; Umran Small Hydroelectric project (10 MW) by JMD Aqua Power Pvt Ltd, New Delhi, and Mawrap Mini Hydel project (1 MW) by Umphyrnai VV Energy Consortium. The MoUs signed for these projects were from 2013 to 2015.
The thermal power projects allotted to private developers include Nangalbibra project, South Garo Hills (240 MW) to be developed by Dharampal Satyapal Ltd, New Delhi; Narringre, East Garo Hills (300 MW) by GC Power Private Limited, Hyderabad, and Captive Thermal Power project, Shallang, West Khasi Hills (60 MW) by Brijraj Power and Metallics Ltd, Shillong.
The MoUs of these projects were signed in 2010-11. As far as thermal projects are concerned, the state government has to depend on coal linkages after the ban on coal mining.
