NONGPOH/SHILLONG, March 21: Making a breakthrough in the case of the sensational murder of a 70-year-old man from 20 Mer Pahammawlein in Ri-Bhoi, police on Monday evening arrested two suspects. They have been identified as Prince Abraham Sylliang (35) of 20 Mer Pahammawlein and Sushil Kurbah (72) of Umdap Duki.
It may be recalled that Elius Ryndong’s body with severe cuts was found on March 9 this year at his agricultural field located at Kliar Umdap Duki near Pahammawlein village. Sources from the family had said that Ryndong had left his home at around 7 am for his agricultural field. However, they came to know about the incident at around 5:30 pm this evening.
It was also informed that the two main accused had some quarrel and personal enmity with the deceased and that they were arrested in connection with a case registered with Nongpoh PS based on the statements of the available witnesses, sources input and available evidence. The accused will be forwarded to the concerned court and the charge sheet will be filed after completion of the investigation, police informed.
In the meanwhile, this case had found a mention in the ongoing Budget session of the Meghalaya Assembly as well.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home department, Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed the House about the arrest of the two suspects.
Replying to a zero-hour notice moved by Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem, Tynsong said that the murder case came to be known on March 9, when staff of Byrnihat Police station received information that an unidentified body was found in Pahammawlein village.
Tynsong informed the House that the family of the deceased had also filed an FIR on March 10.
Earlier, Mayralborn Syiem had called for swift action against the culprits while terming the murder an act of barbarism and unacceptable.
