Hospitalisation rises as Covid-19, H3N2 cases soar

Shillong, March 22: In the last 24 hours, there have been over 1,000 new coronavirus cases reported from different parts of the country. There is also spike in cases of H3N2.

The country witnessed a total of 1,134 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, according to data from the Health Ministry.

The weekly positivity rate was 0.98 percent, whereas the daily positivity rate for new patients was 1.09 percent.

According to information provided by the Health department, 83 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 5.83 percent and one more fatality were reported in Delhi on Tuesday.

Fresh Covid cases have increased in the city over the past several days, coincident with a dramatic spike in H3N2 influenza cases nationwide.

34 cases were reported in the nation’s capital on Monday, with a positivity rate of 6.98%.

On Sunday, Delhi recorded 72 cases of Covid-19 with a positivity rate of 3.95 percent.

The capital saw 58 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 3.52 percent on Saturday.

On January 16, for the first time since the epidemic broke out in the country, there were no new case reported.

With the new instances, the total number of Covid-19 cases since the start of pandemic in Delhi has reached 20,08,087 whereas the number of fatalities is now at 26,524.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that the rise in influenza cases is due to the Influenza A subtype H3N2 virus.

Compared to other subtypes, the H3N2 virus is causing more hospitalisations. A runny nose, a persistent cough, and a fever are the symptoms.
