Shillong, March 23: Two passengers were detained on a Dubai to Mumbai Indigo flight on Wednesday after they created ruckus on the flight in an inebriated state. The accused also misbehaved with the flight attendants and other passengers.
Two passengers, John G Dsouza, 49, and Dattatray Bapardekar, 47, the accused hail from Maharashtra.
According to reports, the two who worked in Dubai purchased wine from a duty-free shop there and drank half of a bottle on their journey to Mumbai. They were “celebrating” their first year of employment in Dubai.
According to officials, the accused also walked up and down the aisle of the aircraft while abusing the flight crew and other passengers.
The two passengers were detained and charged with endangering the life and safety of others in accordance with IPC Section 336. They were additionally charged with assault and intoxication under special aircraft regulations.
At 8 in the morning, the IndiGo flight departed Dubai, and the two accused immediately started drinking. Co-passengers complained about their constant drinking on the flight, and when they were asked to stop, the two allegedly yelled insults at the other passengers.
In a statement, IndiGo said, “Two passengers travelling on flight 6E 1088 from Dubai to Mumbai were observed to be in an inebriated state and continued consuming alcohol onboard despite multiple warnings from the crew. They verbally abused the crew and co-passengers. As per protocol, they were handed over to the CISF security staff for unruly behavior. Post the incident, a complaint has been filed at the nearby police station. We regret the inconvenience caused to other passengers.”
