SHILLONG: The KHADC is yet to receive any official communiqué from the State Government regarding constitution of a delimitation commission (DC) for realigning the Council constituencies

Informing this here on Sunday, the KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyngshngaiñ N Syiem said “I have learnt about the proposed move of the State Government only through media.”

He said the proposal to constitute a commission has come at a time when the Council had passed the KHADC Autonomous District (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 2013 which seeks delimitation of the Council constituencies.

When asked what would be the fate of the Bill passed if the Commission is constituted, Syiem said it would be difficult for him to comment anything in this connection at this juncture “since no final decision has been taken to constitute the commission.”

“I have to convene the meeting of all the MDCs to discuss this proposal once we receive the official communiqué. It depends on the MDCs whether to oppose or accept this proposal,” he said.

On the proposal of the Government to extend the tenure of the present House to be able to conduct the Council’s election in the State as per the delimited constituencies, he said he can not question this proposal since the Governor might be empowered by the constitution to do this.
