SHILLONG, March 25: Congress MLA Saleng Sangma on Saturday asserted that every budget presented by the government is people’s budget but the question that arises is how the budget is going to be implemented for their benefit.
Admitting that he liked the positive motto of presenting the Budget, Sangma said that the government has promised 5 lakh jobs but it is a well-known fact that thousands of vacancies in different departments could not be filled by the same MDA Government during its last stint.
“Moreover, there are many departments in which employees are not getting salary on time and even teachers are yet to be paid,” the Congress MLA said, while adding that the government must fulfill what it promised in the Budget since they have the mandate of the public.
The state government intends to turn Meghalaya into a 10-billion dollar economy, although it presented the Budget with a fiscal deficit of Rs 1,592 crore, which is around 3.42% of the GSDP.
Government has also allocated Rs 10 crore for training of 10,000 youth in soft skills under Meghalaya Youth Policy.
