Over 187 locals benefit from health camp at Lyngiong village

SHILLONG, March 29: More than 187 people at Lyniong village in Mawphlang have benefited from a health camp which was organised by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Department of Allied Health Sciences, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong, recently.
According to a statement here, the one-day health camp was attended by students from the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology, Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant, Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology, Bachelor of Science in Surgical and Operation Theatre, Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition, and the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics.
Doctors from Nongspung PHC and Ganesh Das Hospital had assisted at the camp.
“The students from the department of Nutrition and Dietetics assessed the nutritional status of the people and conducted a survey on the dietary intake of women. The students from the department of Allied Health Sciences checked vital signs such as pulse, body temperature, oxygen level and blood pressure. A few people were referred by medical doctors for on spot laboratory tests like haemoglobin estimation, blood glucose level, urine analysis and malaria which was followed by free medicines,” the statement said.
During the health camp, the most common ailments investigated were rhinitis, cough and common cold, digestive tract ailments, poor appetite, low dental care, et al.
