MAWKYRWAT, March 29: Juxtaposing the facilities available in other civil hospitals in Meghalaya with the ones in Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital, local MLA Renikton L Tongkhar has stressed the need to have better facilities in the latter hospital.
“I don’t want to see the patients from Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital being referred to other civil hospitals in the state for better treatment. I want to see that all the facilities that are there in the Shillong Civil Hospital should be here in the Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital so that we can serve the people better,” Tongkhar said, following an inspection of the Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital on Wednesday.
During the inspection, the Mawkyrwat MLA was accompanied by the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr. W Sutnga and Nursing Superintendent of the hospital L Kharbhih in the presence of other doctors from the hospital.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Tongkhar, while admitting that the newly inaugurated civil hospital still lacks many things, appreciated the hospital staff for working tirelessly notwithstanding the challenges.
The MLA said that he was informed by the Medical Superintendent that the Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital still requires better infrastructure and other facilities such as a multistoried building for OPD, rainwater harvesting, proper parking lot, proper staff quarters, et al.
Tongkhar also informed that the Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital is in need of equipment in the Operation Theatre.
Stating that the Operation Theatre is still an empty room, he argued that the hospital also requires manpower strength, including doctors, nurses, grade-IV staff and drivers.
“Therefore, we still have many things to do to properly equip this hospital and I have requested the Medical Superintendent to provide me with all the details so that we can follow up from time to time. I understand that crores of rupees will be involved for the development of this hospital, but we will try to provide everything that we can so that the hospital will function better.”
