Shillong, Marc 30: Security forces started a massive search operation in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir after an explosion created a crater near the International Border with Pakistan.

The blast occurred near the Border Police Post Saniyal in the Kathua district, which is close to the international border. A search operation is continuing since Thursday morning to ascertain if any infiltrators entered the Indian territory.

The blast appears to have been brought on by an improvised explosive device (IED), which may have been placed by a drone at the wrong location close to the border.

SSP Kathua Shivdeep Singh Jamwal said that the information about the explosion was received around 9.30 pm on Wednesday.

He said “We have also launched a search operation Thursday morning. The bomb squad has collected the samples from the site and sent them for tests”.

The explosion site was discovered at around 10.30 pm in middle of the fields.

Mukesh Singh, the ADGP of Jammu said that no movement of any objects or people was discovered during the initial search.
