Shillong, March 30: In what could be called as startling revelation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during UPA regime had put pressure on him to frame Narendra Modi, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat in an alleged fake encounter case.

“The CBI was putting pressure on me to frame Modi ji in an alleged fake encounter case during the Congress government,” he said. He said that BJP never cried foul despite this.

Shah was replying to a question on accusation by opposition regarding misuse of central agencies to target them during a media event.

On Tuesday, PM Modi attacked the opposition, alleging that some parties had joined forces to launch the “Bhrashtachari Bachao Abhiyan,” (save the corrupt campaign).

In view of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s expulsion from the Parliament due to a defamation conviction, the opposition has been presenting a united front.

According to PM Modi, “all the faces involved in corruption are coming together on one platform.”

“Our foundation is strong because of our constitutional institutions. Today, this foundation is being attacked to stop India,” he added.

The Supreme Court has been approached by 14 opposition parties, including the Congress, regarding the alleged arbitrary use of the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) against its leaders. The Apex court will hear the plea on April 15.
