SHILLONG: The UDP has demanded the State Government to immediately recall the 5th MLP battalion currently placed at the disposal of Delhi Government in view of the grave manpower shortfall in the State police.

In a statement here on Tuesday, the party’s working president Paul Lyngdoh lamented that State Police personnel were made to guard VIPs and embassies in the national capital when people from Meghalaya villages bordering Assam had to fend for themselves.

The UDP alleged that Meghalaya was the only Northeastern state to have agreed upon such an arrangement with the Centre.
