Students get sensitised on gender awareness

SHILLONG, March 31: As many as 10 colleges and Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) took part in a one-day workshop on ‘Enhancing Gender Awareness among Students’, which was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of Sociology, Sankardev College, in Collaboration with North East (NEN), Shillong, on Friday.
According to a statement here, the  workshop was aimed at Sensitising students on the importance of gender-related issues, gender rights and equalities.
“Participants fervently participated through group discussions, exercises and shared their opinion and insights. Having been constantly working in the field of gender, the resource persons were able to engage the students in discussions and deliberations on issues pertaining to gender and power relations, patriarchy, violence against women and legal measures addressing such violence,” the statement said.
While Nilanju Dutta, Gender Specialist, NEN, Assam, spoke about ‘Gender and Power Relations, Patriarchy and Violence against Women’, Advocate Rebina Subba spoke about ‘Laws on Crimes against Women and the Redressal Mechanisms’.
