SHILLONG: Mawkhar MDC James Ban Basaiawmoit has withdrawn support from the Congress-led Khasi Hills United Democratic Alliance (KHUDA) in the KHADC.

Basaiawmoit, who is also the vice president of KHNAM, submitted his letter of withdrawal to the District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh, who is also the chairman of KHUDA, on Wednesday. “After I rejoined the party (KHNAM) I decided to sit in the Opposition along with my fellow party MDC Adelbert Nongrum,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that Basaiawmoit along with Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor had deserted KHNAM to join the UDP as part of the merger led by the former party president Paul Lyngdoh.
