SHILLONG: The State Government is in dilemma over allotment of MBBS seats under the Central pool after the Supreme Court quashed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical courses.
Official sources on Wednesday said that the Government had not been able to take a decision on the issue as it was yet to receive any official notification from the Centre in this regard.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) has, meanwhile, filed an appeal before the Supreme Court seeking a review of its judgement on NEET.
“We are expecting some positive developments on this matter only after August 16,” sources said.
Meanwhile, official sources said that the State Government is contemplating to write to the Centre requesting to allow the State to allot the seats as per the policy followed for the past many years. Earlier, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek had said that the Government was in favour to allot MBBS seats under the Central Pool on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained by students in Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination.
