SHILLONG: Most of the former legislators, who unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly elections on Congress ticket, are now part of the newly-constituted State Planning Board.

Sources said that besides the Chairman SC Marak, who is the sitting Congress legislator from Resubelpara, the State Government has appointed ex- MLAs — Shitlang Pale, Lahkmen Rimbui, Adolf Hitler Marak, Advisor Pariong and Francis Pondit Sangma — as the Co-Chairman of the Board.

Congress member John Kharshiing and ex-MDC Fersen C Momin are the other Co Chairman.

The Government also appointed Congress members — Eureka Lyngdoh, Manas Das Gupta and Polycarp Marak among others — as deputy chairman of the Board.

The Government is likely to appoint a few more members to the Board for its effective functioning.

A meeting of the Board will be held in the second week of August to chalk out the action plan, sources said.

When contacted, Co-Chairman of the Board, John Kharshiing said that the newly constituted Board would try to follow up the major decisions taken by the previous functionaries of the Board.
