SHILLONG, April 3: Peeved at the reported termination of the service of 27 GNM nurses working in different primary health centres (PHCs), the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Monday locked the office of Karuna Trust in Nongthymmai
The trust, who has signed an agreement with the state government to run the 11 PHCs in Meghalaya, had reportedly terminated the services of the GNM nurses on April 1 on the ground of failure to produce registration certificates from the nursing council.
While talking to reporters, HYC general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem informed that the Trust has sought time from them to resolve this issue of termination.
“Why should we give them time when they have not given time to the nurses to submit their registration certificate before terminating their service,” Synrem said, adding that some of them already carry a work experience of over 10 years.
Informing that out of the 27 GNM nurses, 13 are locals, Synrem said the Trust had not asked them to produce their registration certificates when they had recruited them and there are many who were recruited during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“How can someone be removed from the job without giving them ample time to submit the documents,” the HYC general secretary added.
