SHILLONG, April 3: The United Democratic Party, the second largest constituent of the MDA 2.0 coalition, will soon meet Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to apprise him of their concerns over the contentious interstate border dispute with Assam.
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday told journalists that the Chief Minister is out of town and the party will raise the issue once he returns. He sounded confident that the chief minister will address their concern and take into consideration the suggestions from the party.
Lyngdoh also said that the party will take up the need for a common minimum programme of the coalition for the journey ahead.
Earlier, the UDP chief said that the party is confident of favourable outcome in the Sohiong bypoll scheduled on May 10. The election was adjourned following the demise of UDP candidate and former Home minister HDR Lyngdoh.
The UDP has named Lyngdoh’s nephew Synshar Kupar Roy Lyngdoh Thabah as the candidate.
Lyngdoh also maintained that the people in Sohiong are coming back to the UDP as they want to show their gratitude to (L) HDR Lyngdoh because of his contributions to the constituency.
The notification for by-election to the Sohiong constituency will be issued on April 13. The last date for filing of nominations is April 20 while the date for scrutiny of nominations is April 21. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 24.
Only the UDP candidate will be allowed to file his nomination.
