SHILLONG, April 6: Weeks after an activist filed a complaint with Chief Election Commissioner of India, accusing Williamnagar MLA Marcuise N Marak and his party of misguiding electorates in the run-up to the 2023 Meghalaya Assembly elections, the former has now filed another complaint, this time with the police.
PHE Minister and Williamnagar MLA has, however, rubbished the allegations levelled against him, and said that it was a political vendetta by the opposition camp for suffering an electoral defeat at his hands last month.
Activist Tennydard M Marak, had earlier accused Marcuise and NPP of publishing misleading and objectionable advertisements, and misguiding the voters.
In his complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Tennydard had said that Marcuise had circulated a ‘Report Card 2018-22’ during the election campaign, which contained false claims and fabricated report of his so-called achievements in order to woo the voters of Williamnagar, and was successful in winning the seat later only to secure a cabinet berth in MDA 2.0.
According to the complainant, the report card was distributed by Marcuise himself in violation of the Model Code of Conduct, which was already in place then.
“It contains only the works done during the period 2018-2022 and the credit claimed by him whereas it is completely a fabricated and false report and mostly half completed works,” the complainant had said.
