Shillong, April 7: Ahead of Baisakhi on April 14, a high alert has been issued across Punjab as search for pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh continues.

Because the state is on high alert for Baishakhi, all leaves of Punjab police officials have been cancelled till April 14. Amritpal Singh, a fugitive radical leader, has been pleading with Shri Akal Takht Sahib to host a ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ to talk about Sikh issues.

Giani Harpreet Singh, the chief priest of the Akal Takhth, scheduled a three-day annual gathering at Takht Damdama Sahib on Thursday to commemorate Baisakhi.

So far Akal Takht has not agreed to the pleas of Amritpal to hold a Sarbat Khalsa. The annual gathering will only celebrate Baisakhi.

Amritpal Singh, the leader of Waris Punjab De, has been missing since March 18. Despite this, he has released two videos and one audio clip. It was also widely rumoured that he would surrender before Baisakhi at the Golden Temple or another shrine.

Amritpal Singh’s surrender was not confirmed by the Punjab Police, but they had earlier claimed that there was sufficient security in place.
