SHILLONG, April 13: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president, Vincent H. Pala on Thursday fired a salvo at the MDA 2.0 government, including its constituent BJP, for trying to divide society.
He told reporters that the government’s design is to create a division between the Khasis and non-Khasis, people of different religions and even on the issue of reservation.
Urging the people to read the intention of the BJP and its partners in Meghalaya, Pala said the saffron party had in its election manifesto promised to probe all the allegations of corruption and scams but did a volte-face after the polls.
“The BJP today says something and tomorrow it does something else,” he said while adding that the BJP and its partners in Meghalaya are working to benefit their party workers and the rich, not the common people.
“In its Sankalp Patra, the BJP said it would form a special task force under the chairmanship of a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the corruption cases in the state. But party leaders rushed to NPP chief Conrad K. Sangma to offer support soon after the election results were declared,” Pala pointed out.
Accusing the BJP of working overtime to divide society, Pala claimed Congress bats for unity.
On Thursday, Congress held a meeting to chalk out the party strategy for the upcoming Sohiong by-polls. The party also appointed the heads of all its 100 units in the constituency.
