Shillong, April 16: Police have reportedly revealed the links between gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, who were killed by three shooters on Saturday night with the Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The police claimed that he was the IS 227 gang’s leader and that his brother Ashraf was a key player in the group.

Atiq had allegedly told the police in a statement that he has connections with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and ISI and that he obtained weapons delivered in Punjab by Pakistani drones.

Police were informed by Atiq and Ashraf that they knew the address of the individuals who brought the arms to them but were unable to find them while in custody and would only be able to identify them once they reach the location.

They added that Pakistan-based organisations provided the weapons used in the murder of Umesh Pal.

On February 24, Umesh Pal was shot dead near his home in Prayagraj. In the assault, one of his policemen was hurt, and he eventually passed away from his wounds. CCTV shows Umesh Pal stepping out of the SUV with one of his two police bodyguards when suddenly a man appears from behind and shoots him.
