Agartala : Ending all speculations, PCC president DC Hrangkhawl officially informed Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath about the appointment of MLA Sudip Roy Barman as the leader of Congress Legislator Party (CLP), sources confirmed here on Sunday.

In the letter, Hrangkhawl said Congress president Sonia Gandhi had chosen Mr. Roy Barman as CLP leader after observing all aspects. “Take necessary steps so that Mr. Roy Barman could lead the party in the Assembly as well as outside the House as opposition leader”, he mentioned in the letter.

The moment the letter endorsing Mr. Roy Barman’s appointment, the incumbent Ratal Lal Nath step down as the officiating CLP leader. During his 10-year long stint as CLP leader, Mr. Nath has proved his worth for the people by raising some important issues.

However, the appointment of Mr. Roy Barman as CLP leader irked most of the party’s senior leaders because almost all the important posts have virtually been captured by either Mr. Roy Barman or his trusted followers- Hrangkhawl (PCC chief) and Asish Kumar Saha (working president).

Sources in the PCC said, senior party leaders look set to take the ‘battle for existence’ to the Delhi’s court seeking justice. “We are deeply upset by the recent move of the party at the behest of AICC general secretary Luzinho Faleiro”, said a senior party leader on condition of anonymity.

“Faleiro has been making TPCC a platform of Mr. Roy Barman where senor party leaders have no place. If the situation continues, the day is not far when”, he added.

Meanwhile, expelled Congress leader Debasish Sen of Kailasahar will formally join the ruling CPIM along with 100 supporters. Sen, former general secretary of Pradesh Congress, will join the CPIM in presence of Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty and state unit secretary Bijan Dhar at Kailasahar Town Hall.
