SHILLONG, April 21: Deputy Chief Minister and NPP vice-president Prestone Tynsong on Friday termed the attempted move of TMC leader Mukul Sangma to merge with the BJP a sign of desperation.
Tynsong told reporters that if Mukul’s move was blocked by none other than Chief Minister Conrad Sangma himself, the former may be considered as one of the top BJP leaders in the country.
It may be mentioned that Tynsong himself had claimed during the campaign for the Assembly polls held in February that Mukul Sangma and his team (TMC) would join BJP soon after the polls.
Tynsong also denied any knowledge of PDF and HSPDP merging with the NPP.
As per reports, a move by state TMC to merge with BJP has come a cropper as four MLAs of the TMC which had a disappointing performance at the last election, were desperate to change their political fortune by joining the BJP bandwagon.
The reports also said that Mukul is said to have initiated the merger move with the BJP. Sources said that Mukul’s bête noire Conrad Sangma put his foot down and ensured that BJP’s top strategist and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma short circuited the move.
