Rs 7-crore boost for Kongthong tourism

SHILLONG, April 30: In what can be termed a fillip for the well-known tourist spot Kongthong village, Rs 7 crore will be allocated for the development of tourism in the ‘whistling’ village.
This was revealed by Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday while he addressing a gathering during the Shad Raid Kongthong.
The state government will soon sanction the funds so that the work can be taken up at the earliest, Lyngdoh said in his address.
Others who were present include Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliem, KHADC CEM Titosstarwell Chyne, junior chieftain (Syiem Khynnah) of Hima Sohra, among others.
Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliem has assured to improve the dancing ground of Raid Kongthong.
It may be mentioned that 200 male and female dancers participated in the Shad Raid Kongthong, which is the annual thanksgiving dance of Raid Kongthong which began on Friday.
On the inaugural day, Sordar of Raid Kongthong Teibor Lynrah along with elders of the village had performed the thanksgiving prayer and sought blessing for a bountiful harvest and protection throughout the year.
Dancers from the neighbouring villages also took part in the dance on the second day of this celebration.
