SHILLONG: The banned militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) is yet to make its customary bandh announcement on August 15, but the East Khasi Hills Police is claiming to have already made full preparation for tackling any eventuality in the District as far as law and order is concerned.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang on Thursday said, “We are fully prepared and we have sufficient number of men to look after the security.”
Kharkrang, further, informed that elaborate arrangements will be made to ensure full security in and around the venue of the Independence Day celebrations in Shillong.
Apart from the intensifying its security, police have started conducting checking throughout the city to prevent any eventuality during the run-up to the celebration.
For years now, the outlawed outfit (HNLC) has been boycotting Independence Day celebration and forcing residents of Shillong and elsewhere in the State to stay indoors throughout the day.
Meanwhile, it was informed that Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma will hoist the National Flag in Shillong during the upcoming 67th Independence Day celebration. Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh will take the Salute at Nongstoin.
Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Abu Taher Mondal, will take the Salute at Nongpoh. PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar will hoist the Tricolour in Jowai while Deputy Chief Minister Prof. RC Laloo will take the Salute at Tura.
SAD Minister Deborah Marak will take the Salute at Williamnagar while Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong will hoist the National Flag at Baghmara.
