SHILLONG, May 4: The Social Welfare department is looking to increase Aadhaar enrolment in Meghalaya by involving deputy commissioners so as to ensure that the residents of the state do not lose out on any central scheme and programme.
Informing this, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said he had held a video conference with Union Minister Smriti Irani on the matter.
Stating that the low rate of Aadhaar enrolment, especially among the children, is an area of concern, Lyngdoh informed that the overall Aadhaar registration in the state is 71 per cent.
Asserting that the figures will improve in the next six months, he said the state government will try its best towards the realisation of the target by involving all deputy commissioners across the state, so that the onus for improvement of Aadhaar enrolment becomes collective and remains not only with the Social Welfare department.
