Experts visit IBSD M’laya, explore avenues in bioresources

SHILLONG, May 6: Industry experts form Zandu Foundation for Health Care (ZFHC), Ambach, Valsad, Gujarat, visited the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) Node, Meghalaya, exploring the avenues in bioresources, particularly Gaultheria fragrantissima (Fragrant Wintergreen, locally known as Jathynrait and Lathynrait).
According to a statement here, the team of industry experts observed the nursery and field trails, laboratory setup and medicinal plant-associated activities of lab-to-land programme in consideration of local farmers under Himalayan Bioresource Mission.
The team also mentioned exploring the economic feasibility of harnessing the potential of locally available Jathynrait with sustainability and benefit to local farmers.
“The activities associated with the Himalayan Bioresource Mission related to advancement of locally available and utilisable traditional medicinal plants, their evaluation, efficacy validation, conservation through cultivation and translational research approach for societal development led by Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director of the IBSD,” the statement said.
