SHILLONG, May 7: A fresh batch of 62 medical students from Manipur has landed at Guwahati airport on Sunday night.
An official source said that out of the returnees, 23 students are from Shillong while 25 are from Tura.
The remaining 14 students are going to be picked up by their parents/relatives.
Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Sunday said students from Tura, Shillong and other locations studying in Manipur have landed safely in Guwahati and are being sent back home.
“Happy to see smiles and relief on their faces. 70 more students will be brought back home tonight. Great work by our team,” Sangma said in a tweet.
KSU general secretary, Donald V Thabah said that members of NESO and All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) jointly with the Manipur Home department and the local administration have dropped around 240 students at the airport on Sunday.
Disclosing a message he received from NESO assistant general secretary Sanatomba Meitei, the KSU leader said the students are from Central Agricultural University, RIMS, NIT, Manipur University and other institutes.
This batch of 240 students hail from Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal, Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam, Odisha, Kashmir and other states.
He also said that NESO has urged the students to refrain from spreading false news about Manipur since they are working hard to restore peace in the state.
