SHILLONG, May 10: In a significant move, the KHADC has decided to stop the deduction of weight of agricultural produce in Iewduh — a step frowned upon by farmers.
Informing this, KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Titosstarwell Chyne said that decision was taken during a meeting convened by the CEM with the Executive Members, Syiem of Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem, members of the Hills Farmer Union and the vegetable traders in Iewduh.
“We will issue a directive to stop deduction of weight of agricultural produce in all the markets of the Council,” Chyne said while speaking to reporters.
He further informed that they have also decided to implement the notification of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem 2019, which barred all traders from deducting the weight of the agricultural produce.
According to him, the farmers are badly affected in view of the deduction of the weight of their agricultural produce.
Informing that the KHADC in 2021 passed an amendment Bill to stop all forms of deduction on agricultural produce, Chyne said, “This amendment bill is now pending with the District Council Affairs department. We will be meeting the government to request to send this bill to the Governor for his assent.”
