NONGSTOIN: Members of the Hima Raid Mynsaw have decided to resume the construction of the market shed at Langpih after August 25.

The decision was arrived at during a meeting of the Hima Raid at Langpih on Saturday.

Commenting on the decision to resume construction of the market shed at Langpih, headman of the Hima Raid Mynsaw, Hindro Samakha, said that they had met Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma at Shillong on May 25. “During the meeting the Chief Minister had assured the Hima Raid that the Government would resolve the Langpih issue within three months. However, with the end of the three-month period just round the corner, the Hima Raid Mynsaw is skeptical about the intention of the Government to resolve the issue with the Assam Government,” Samakha said.

“The people of Langpih are worried as Assam Police would not allow the Khasi people to construct any structure at Langpih. Even construction of a toilet is objected to by the Assam Police. Under these circumstances, and considering that the State Government has failed to resolve the issue with the Assam government, the Hima Raid Mynsaw will have no choice but to take matter into its own hands and resume the construction post August 25, 2013,” the headman stated.

Samakha also pointed out that the Government of Meghalaya would be held responsible for any atrocities meted out to the people of Langpih by the Assam Police during the construction of the market shed.
