NONGPOH/SHILLONG, May 16: Multiple youths from Ri-Bhoi who had applied for the post of Driver Constable (DC) in the Police department, have alleged an anomaly in the selection of candidates for the post.
Despite scoring higher marks than some candidates who have been selected for the personal interview, the names of the aggrieved youths were not called for the next stage of the selection process.
Venting their disappointment and shedding light on the alleged irregularities within the department’s recruitment system, the youths told The Shillong Times, on condition anonymity, that they scored 317 and 314 marks respectively in the physical and written tests, but some candidates who obtained lower scores (ranging from 307 to 312) were selected for the personal interview.
It may be noted that The Shillong Times, however, could not independently verify the veracity of their claims.
Taken aback, the youths conveyed their dismay over being left out despite securing higher scores.
They questioned the fairness and transparency of the selection process.
According to the youths, when they approached the Police department seeking an explanation as to why their names were excluded from the list despite scoring higher than the selected candidates, they were assured a written clarification.
However, the claim is that no clarification has been issued by the department thus far.
The affected youths have now aired their grievances seeking concerned authorities within the police department to issue a clarification in regard with their case.
The youths have made a clarion call for transparency and parity in the recruitment process.
Meanwhile, a senior police official, when contacted on the matter, said that if the candidates have any grievances, they can file a complaint to the Central Recruitment Board (CRB).
“We will reply accordingly to the points raised by these candidates. The whole recruitment process was carried out in a transparent manner. There is no room for any discrepancies since we have strictly followed as per the rules,” the senior police official added.
