Shillong, May 18: After four days of gridlock, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has given green signal for Siddaramaiah’s nomination to be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.

DK Shivakumar, the state president of the Congress, who was also vying for the top position, is likely to serve as his deputy. On May 20, a swearing-in ceremony will be held in Bengaluru.

This comes as discussions between Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former senior leader Rahul Gandhi continued throughout the day on Wednesday. DK Shivakumar, the leader of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), attended the conference to help find a solution.

DK Shivakumar had agreed to a power-sharing agreement with senior leader Siddaramaiah, but he wanted to hold the position of leadership for the first half of the five-year term, according to a senior party leader.
