SHILLONG, May 18: MPCC chief Vincent H. Pala on Thursday claimed to be aware of rumours that the two party MDCs, Carness Sohshang (Mawkyrwat) and Batskhem Ryntathiang (Mairang), intended to join the NPP.
The MPCC chief claimed to have personally questioned the two MDCs about their intentions to join the NPP.
The MPCC chief stated that “both of them have denied having any such plan”.
However, if they have made the decision to support the NPP, he cannot stop them.
If Sohshang and Ryntathiang join the NPP, the party’s strength in the KHADC will increase to 14.
Meanwhile, a source said that the two Congress MDCs reportedly even spoke with NPP national vice president and Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong at his office chamber on Wednesday.
Despite numerous attempts, the two Congress MDCs were not accessible for comment.
Currently, the NPP has 12 MDCs in the House of 30, followed by the UDP with 10, including newly-nominated member, BM Lanong.
The opposition Congress has six MDCs.
