SHILLONG: To enrich the student community with correct information when it comes to making informed career choices, ‘Career Track Eduyear book 2013’, an annual career handbook of Northeast was officially launched in Shillong here on Tuesday.
Published for the benefit of the students of the region, this handbook is one of its kind which aims at catering to the needs of the young students in their examinations and career options.
Addressing a press conference, convener of the publication, Jasmine Barman spoke about the history of the publication stating that the book which took off in 2012 has had the honour of getting nominated in India Education Awards in the category of Best Education Sector Publication.
“This year’s edition is a compilation of career information contributed both by national and international career practitioners. The book is recommended by the education department for all school and college libraries of Assam and Manipur,” Barman said. Barman also observed that students are largely ill-informed when it comes to making career choices. “Right to Education has no sense if it is not accompanied by Right to Career Information,” she said adding “Career Track Yearbook is our humble step towards that direction.”
“We are willing to translate the book in the local language if the State Government is willing to bear the cost. We wish that the benefits should reach students for whom the entire exercise is undertaken,” she added.
She also informed that the team would approach various schools of the state and apprise them of the various advantages provided by the book.
“We also invite the corporate to buy bulk quantities of the book through their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) budgets and make the same available to the final year students of rural areas free of cost,” Barman said adding “From our side, we have contributed our labour and knowhow. Now it is the turn of the government and corporate to come forward and fulfill their responsibilities.”
Meanwhile, Darwin School of Business, Guwahati has also extended its support to the career track Eduyear book 2013. The school has also has announced admission for its 1 year executive MBA course for working professionals and entrepreneurs.
