JOWAI, May 24: Peace talks between the Pnar community living in Khanduli village and the Karbi community living on the other side of the border was held on Tuesday, which was attended by representatives from both communities.
Speaking during the meeting, West Jaintia Hills Extra Assistant Commissioner WK Kharbuli said that the purpose of the meeting was to bridge the communication gap between the two communities and to bring about peace and tranquility in the area.
He also expressed hope that normalcy is soon restored in the area and people from both communities could again continue their healthy exchanges and trades.
He further urged both communities to take a strong resolution towards strengthening peace and prosperity in the area.
Meanwhile, West Karbi Anglong Assistant Commissioner Rakesh Thakur mentioned the importance of having frequent communication and dialogues between the two communities of the two states so as to bolster their relationship.
He also said that the meeting bodes well for better days ahead.
It may be mentioned that the leaders from both sides, during the meeting, adopted a resolution to maintain status quo in the area.
