Fish pond constructed under MSAM inaugurated

 JOWAI: The District Aqua-culture Mission Committee, West Jaintia Hills District, has approved the construction of 600 fish ponds under the Special Plan Assistance of the Meghalaya State Aqua-Culture Mission (MSAM) which was initiated in 2012.

The estimated cost for the construction of 600 fish ponds in Jaintia Hills was estimated at Rs. 5.4 crore out of which Rs 3.24 crore is the subsidy, Rs. 1.35 crore will be financed by the Meghalaya Apex Cooperative Bank as loan while the balance amount of Rs. 81 lakh would be borne by the beneficiaries.

The first pond, constructed as part of the project, was inaugurated on Monday at Moorasyad, Mihmyntdu village in West Jaintia Hills by Deputy Commissioner, Peter S Dkhar. Superintendent of Fisheries, West Jaintia Hills District, R Rymbui, Mihmyntdu headman Lakhon Chyrmang and MCAP Supervisor K Kurbah were present on the occasion.

The Superintendent of Fisheries informed that the first fish pond was constructed on 0.1 hectare of land at a cost of Rs. 90,000 out of which Rs. 22, 500 was awarded as a loan while Rs. 13, 500 was borne by the beneficiary, Ms. Tip Chyrmang, a resident of Mihmyntdu village.
