SHILLONG: The Garo Hills Adventure Motorsports Association (GAMA), in collaboration with the District Sports Officer, organised Dirt Endeavor, a two-wheel rally as part of the Indian Independence Day celebrations, at Chandmary playground, Tura, on Wednesday.

The 62km competitive rally was flagged off by Gambegre MLA Saleng A Sangma.

The rally saw 20 teams comprising enthusiasts from the Garo Hills region take part.

Before flagging off the rally, the Gambegre MLA commended the organisers and suggested that the novel initiative could be organised on a grand scale in the future to attract motorsports enthusiasts from all over the state.

This was the first rally of its kind organised by GAMA in the last eight years. The organisation had suffered a lack of sponsorship, which meant that they were not able to host more events.

However the Association will try to organise similar rallies at least once a year.

GAMA president and South Tura MLA John Leslee K Sangma said the association will also organise a rally on August 15.

Another rally will be organised later in the year and will include four-wheelers, he said, adding that he expects a bigger turnout in that event.
