Security beefed up after spate of crimes in city

SHILLONG, May 27: In view of a spate of untoward incidents such as assault, arson and vandalism that have come to light recently, the Shillong Police has bolstered security in the city.
Within the past 10 days or so, a shopkeeper from Iewduh was assaulted, while shops of some hawkers were vandalised in Police Bazar.
Police have arrested nine people for vandalism so far.
During the same time, some miscreants had damaged several two-wheelers and four-wheelers in Mawprem area of the city
Meanwhile, an FIR was filed against masked men travelling in a white Bolero (without registration plates) after they set on fire three haystacks used as cattle fodder at Langkyrding Nongmensong.
On early Friday morning, a bike parked on the roadside also caught fire in Jhalupara and police are investigating whether it was done by miscreants in mischief or if there were reasons behind the incident.
Again, a vehicle with Assam registration went up in flames at Lawmali. The vehicle was charred and investigation is under way.
