SHIILLONG, May 29: The HSPDP, which is part of the NPP-led MDA 2.0 government, urged the state government to review the job reservation policy.
HSPDP president, KP Pangniang said the policy was one of the main agendas on the party’s election manifesto. “We will raise this issue in the MDA coordination committee meeting,” he said after a meeting of the party.
“We also intend to approach the chief minister directly to discuss the reservation policy,” he said.
Pangniang also underlined the long-standing demand for the bifurcation of Meghalaya. “There should be a separate Khasi-Jaintia state. The Garo community should also be granted its Garoland,” he said.
HSPDP’s Mawthadraishan MLA, Shakliar Warjri said the party will continue to deliberate on this issue.
His Mawshynrut counterpart, Methodius Dhar, who is a member of the Committee on Roster System, said he will demand a review of both the job reservation policy and the roster system.
In Jaintia Hills, the Jaintia Coordination Committee for Reservation Policy (JCCRP), comprising Synjuk Waheh Shnong Ri Jaintia, Synjuk Waheh Shnong Jowai, Jaintia Students’ Union, Jaintia Youth Federation, Jaintia Students’ Movement and East Jaintia National Council, organised a sit-in at Stand Ummulong Iawmusiang, Jowai, to demand a review of the job reservation policy.
Most of the speakers at the sit-in condemned the MDA 2.0 Government led by NPP. They said this is the right time for the government to review the reservation policy to avoid any problems for the present and future generations.
They also slammed the seven MLAs from Jaintia Hills for remaining mute spectators. The speakers reminded the MLAs of their election promise to work for the betterment of the society and condemned them for forgetting the public after winning the polls.
The committee has announced a second sit-in at Khliehriat on May 31 and another one at Amlarem on June 2.
