Peace rally
A peace rally will be held at the parking lot near Pynursla market at 11 am on Thursday to support the ongoing indefinite hunger strike by VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit demanding a review of the job reservation policy. The Sordar, Rangbah Shnong, general public and school students of the region will participate in the rally.

Felicitation
Shillong-based welfare organisation Bongo Bodhu Mohila Samiti (BBMS) felicitated seven meritorious students of Forest Colony locality who excelled in the board examinations conducted by MBoSE and CBSE and other boards in 2023 at a function on Monday. The students were presented with a certificate of appreciation along with a medal and cash incentive. The BBMS also distributed teaching materials among 20 needy students from the colony who belonged to economically weaker families. Cabinet Minister AL Hek was the chief guest of the programme.

Plantation drive
The Dorbar Shnong Chilliang Raij, Jowai, in collaboration with the Forest department Wildlife Division, Jowai, and students of Chilliang Raij Upper Primary School and teachers organised a tree plantation drive on Tuesday. Around 100 saplings were planted at Pohsnieñ Trepariat near Myntdu river. Headman of Dorbar Shnong Chilliangraij DH Pde, staff of the Wildlife department also participated in the plantation drive.

Accolade
Junu Rabha of Bishnupur, Shillong, has won the title of emerging icon contest in Mother’s category organised at Bagdogra in West Bengal recently. The competition was organized by GB Modelling Studio. Juni was also received additional awards — ‘Best Dancer’ and ‘Best Disciplined Contestant’. The preliminary round of the competition was held in Shillong earlier this year.
