SHILLONG, May 30: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Tuesday issued summons to the Home Department based on the anomalies reflected in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
“We have called the Home Department for now but we will also be calling other departments afterwards as already reflected in CAG report,” Congress MLA and PAC Chairman, Saleng A. Sangma said.
Talking about the CAG report, Sangma said some anomalies were detected in the Home Department. In 2009, the state was awarded Rs 50 crore for a police academy with a capacity for 450 trainees with the laid down norms that 35 different infrastructure such as firing range, indoor shooting, classroom, mini forensic science lab, accommodation, etc., should be constructed.
However, due to delay in land acquisition, the department lost around Rs 25 crore out of the sanctioned Rs 50 crore.
Sangma said the state government has managed to adjust the necessary funds from state resources and the construction work is almost complete but out of the 35 infrastructure work proposed, the number has come down to 13.
Meanwhile, the PAC also directed the Arts and Culture Department to come up with guidelines for selection of artistes for various events and also to invite tenders to select such groups.
“We have told them to come up with a guideline to choose the artistes because we have a lot of good and talented people,” Sangma said.
He also said that the departments have been asked to issue tenders for conduct of programme.
“We have lots of anomalies in every department so whenever CAG brings something to our notice we will definitely look into the matter,” he added.
