MAWKYRWAT, June 1: South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T. Lyngwa on Thursday informed that the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), which has gripped many villages across the district, cannot affect human beings.
It may be mentioned that more than 60 villages in South West Khasi Hills have reportedly been hit by the Lumpy Skin Disease after samples from cows were collected and subsequently tested.
Meanwhile, speaking to The Shillong Times, the DC said that no death of cows has been reported from the district as of yet.
When apprised the DC of the apprehensions among the residents of the district who consume beef, Lyngwa said, “I have spoken to the veterinary doctors about the disease, and they told me that it cannot affect human beings if they consume the meat, and it will affect only the animals.”
Lyngwa also informed that he will convene a meeting of all the butchers from the district at Mawkyrwat on Friday to discuss the issue.
