TURA: The proposed two-day Dadenggre bandh called by the GSU to demand removal of Selsella BDO has been cut down to just one day.

The GSU and its allies informed that the 5 am to 5 pm bandh would now be held only on Monday while Tuesday’s closure has been called off.

“We decided to restrict the non-cooperation movement to Monday as extending it till Tuesday would impact the normal lives of people,” GSU regional unit president, Rupa Marak told The Shillong Times.

The GSU along with the AYWO, FKJGP and Mothers’ Union of Selsella have been protesting for several weeks seeking the removal of Selsella BDO, Dr D Roy, citing corruption charges.

Monday’s bandh is expected to have an impact on Dadenggre, Phulbari, Chibinang, Tikrikilla, Rajabala, Garobadha, Selsella and Jengjal. The main highway (NH-51) connecting Tura with Paikan could also be affected by the dawn to dusk bandh since it passes through Jengjal.
