SHILLONG, June 3: The Congress has sought an end to the blame game encircling power crisis in the state and suggested that the government can explore power from wind, thermal and solar as a long-term solution.
“It is easy to blame and all of us of past 50 years are to be blamed equally. But we have to look at long-term solutions,” Congress Legislature Party leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh told reporters on Saturday.
He said a solution to the problem will be a vital ingredient for the state’s development.
Stating that the world is looking at renewable energy, the Mylliem MLA said even in the transportation system, efforts are now on to do away with fossil fuel.
“If our dependence is only on hydropower, let’s look at other alternatives. We have green energy, solar power, thermal and wind. God has given all of these and it is for us to harness these gifts,” he said.
He cited that areas like Ri-Bhoi and Garo Hills receive plenty of sunshine and stressed on tapping this renewable source of energy. He said it will not cost much.
“If we want to ensure that our state is power surplus, then we have to come together. Let’s stop the blame game that this government didn’t do this and that government didn’t do that. If we have surplus power, it will work in the interest of the state,” he added.
