TURA, June 4: In a major breakthrough in its fight against drugs, West Garo Hills Police on Sunday arrested four of a family involved in drug peddling and were able to recover a huge amount of various psychotropic substances along with other items from their possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Aziar Mondol (44), his wife Zobeda Bibi (35) and their sons Ziadur Mondol (25) and Riazul Mondol (20) from Phulbari.
Police said that the illegal substances were recovered during a search of one of the accused — Aziar Mondal — during an ANTF operation conducted between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
The recovered items included 2.5 kg ganja, 620 Yaba tablets, 29 Nitrazepam tablets, 12 smoke rolling paper packets, Rs 67,840 in cash, a bike (ML-08J-0156), 4.5 grams of heroin, 39 Tramadol tablets, 10 empty heroin boxes, 450 empty vials, nine mobile phones and 10 lighters.
“It is highly suspected that the above-mentioned drug peddlers were sourcing drugs from distributors based in neighbouring states and have accumulated a lot of wealth by peddling drugs. A cognizable case is being registered at Phulbari Police Station and forward/backward linkages are being traced. Investigation is on,” West Garo Hills Superintendent of police, VS Rathore, said.
