Kynnai myntri  in police net

From Our Correspondent

NONGSTOIN: Police recently arrested one Orial Shandiar (52), a myntri of the Kynnai village, Mawkyrwat sub-division, for fraudulently withdrawing Rs 61,500 from the Total Sanitation Scheme (TSC).

According to sources, Orial withdrew the amount allotted for the construction of toilets for the people living below the Poverty Level (BPL). The money withdrawn was meant for the 35 households living in the village wherein each of them had deposited Rs 300 in their bank accounts to get a benefit of Rs 3700 under the scheme.

The culprit was reported to have asked for the cheque from the Block office on September 7, 2010. Not being part of the TSC Committee, Orial, got the members into believing that he would withdraw the money for the 35 households and got them sign the withdrawal slips.

The members of the TSC committee, meanwhile, reported the matter to the BDO of Mawkyrwat Sub-Division OT Lyngwa.

The BDO ordered Orial to appear before him. Orial , however, did not respond to the BDO’s order.

An FIR was filed against him and the matter was later forwarded to the SDO (Civil) Mawkyrwat Sub-Division.

The SDO summoned Orial on June 16 and ordered Orial to appear and produce the money he had taken.

But after Orial failed to do so, he was arrested on the same day. He was later remanded to police custody.
