Kohima: Nagaland Home Minister Kaito G Aye has said the state government is considering establishing a Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) or Cyber Crime Cell (CCC) in the state to cope with hi-tech crimes.

In a statement, Kaito said that a CCPS or CCC should be taken over by efficient police officers, well versed in modern technology because with the increasing use of technology and mobiles for financial transactions, crimes are only expected to increase.

He said he had detailed discussions with the Director General of Police and IGP (Crime) on this issue, for which the state government was considering setting up separate and independent cyber cells and full-fledged police stations.

Although there was an urgent need to open such cells, the IGP, however, lamented that due to shortage of technically qualified manpower in the department, the full fledged Cyber Police Station could not materialise at the moment.

He said the state needed qualified officers in the rank of DSP to handle such areas. Once the state government gives green signal, the CCPS would be established. In this regard, a meeting would be convened soon with the Union Home Ministry.

He further hinted that the CCPS initially would be set up in Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur followed by other districts. The proposal to set up a CCPS in Dimapur was also sent to the state government after discussion with the DGP. (UNI)
