SHILLONG, June 13: The UDP, which had earlier demanded a review of the Meghalaya State reservation Policy of 1972, has now changed its stand and said that policy should focus on the weaker sections of the society.
UDP vice president Allantry F. Dkhar on Tuesday said while the party would remain concerned about the tribals of the state, it would also focus its attention on the weaker sections with regard to the job quota policy.
Dkhar said that party has held interactive sessions with a former Advocate General, senior advocates, and heads of Economics and History departments of colleges and universities and formulating its stand on the reservation policy.
He said the party’s recommendations would be compiled in the form of a submission to be presented to the government at an appropriate time.
