NONGSTOIN: With the condition of the hunger strikers deteriorating by the minute, the district administration on Wednesday appeared before the Association of West Khasi Hills DSC Passed 2010 and appealed to the agitators to call of their indefinite hunger strike which entered the third day on Wednesday.

The district authorities also informed the agitators that the Government has taken some ‘action’ on their demands which would be announced soon.

Official sources at the DC’s Office informed that there were rumours that the announcement would be made after Chief Minister returned from his trip to Germany.

The agitators, however, decided to continue with their hunger strike until their demands were actually fulfilled.

Meanwhile, the health of the agitators continued to deteriorate with one Smti. Rikynti Sun being shifted to the hospital. Doctors said that she was in an extreme state of dehydration and her condition was critical.

Demand for re-validation

of DSC merit list

Legislators from West Khasi Hills including Hoping Stone Lyngdoh and Witting Mawsor, and MDC LG Nongsiej have asked the State Government to re-validate the list of successful candidates of 2010 declared by the District Selection Committee (DSC) of West Khasi Hills.

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Secretary WMS Pariat here on Wednesday, the decision makers asked the State Government to extend the validity of the merit list till the time the successful candidates were given appointment.

It may be mentioned that the validity of the merit list of the candidates, who had cleared the DSC examination on 31 May, 2010, expired on December 31 last year but the State Government is yet to appoint these candidates.
